Stirred, not shaken..

A couple of 'martini' always does help me in not mincing words when I speak. But I swear I am not an alcoholic. I am hardly any good in mixing drinks. Anyway I don't give a damn to anybody.... Well that's precisely is what is happening to the great Indian democracy. Nobody gives a damn to anybody. Right from the PM to the glorified political strategists in the South Block, right from Finance & Home Minister to the Babus in North Block.. nobody gives a damn to, the country and to the people. The prevailing scenarios on the streets and the corridors of power & politics may not be signalling the demise of rule of law in this country but they sure are emerging signs of a decaying political system of a parliamentary democracy... How should we react to the UPA government's move to coronate RahulGandhi as the Prime Minister without taking People's mandate.? Unfortunately our Prime Minister in power does not like interfering in family affairs, nor does he beli

Who hauled away our "Wisdom"..?

Image
I never remember visiting the dentist for extracting my wisdom tooth. Now going by the statistical data, does that make me part of the 35% of population who have no 'wisdom' tooth'.Who cares. I still have teeth enough to chew away my frustrations of being on the electoral roll of world's largest democracy. Democracy has always remained an instant fascination for most of us. The concept "for the people, by the people, of the people" always make us feel great in spite of being just ordinary people. However what continues to surprise me, is the fact that we keep failing in making a right choice of electing a right political party to power. I realize we hardly have any choice. No point therefore to discredit our intelligence for our failure. Anyways how long can we continue to ignore our fundamental right to demand good governance. We are all members of the civil society, yet many like me will never endorse killing all our waking & productive hours i

My general awareness took a beating when I realized my ignorance about the usage of a term called 'Slut-Walk'. I will not blame it to my public diplomacy or the lack of it. I would prefer instead walking straight into understanding what this 'walk' is all about. 'Slut Walks' are protest march against sexual violence against women. The movement started at Toronto is now gaining ground across the globe... When it comes to sexual attacks on women with reference to India Delhi obviously score a ten on ten. A politically polluted police force and a don't care"CM"has proved helpful in taking the daily count of rapes in the city beyond our finger counts. Delhi thus become an eligible venue for heralding the movement into India. 'Slut Walking' is a collective people's response to a non- responsive political & police attitude, which keep blaming the woman's individual dress code the cause for the mounting rapes and molestati

Ticket to politics..

Image
Hats off to UPA's generosity. They continue to deliver one blunder after the other. They are practically serving on the platters, scams after scams for the opposition parties to take on them. However a 'not so' united opposition and a politically unwise BJP are not able to muster enough grit & valor to seize these as opportunities to replace a bad governance with good governance. There is nothing wrong with our democracy. What can democracy do if our parliament proves a helpless spectator watching the "man" at the helm succumbing to back seat driving. It is not that the country has not progressed in spite and not withstanding economics of corruptions & black money. However the potential for our growth remains grossly under used because of vested agenda and decaying politics. Coming to politics... how can ?...the seasoned & veteran politicians and political parties allow a yoga guru to go around splurging money and making mockery of politics

Being pessimist..?

The ordinary people spread across 28 states and seven union territories do definitely go through some linguistic & cultural pressure in communicating. However such pressures doesn't change the way they fight to cope up with their everyday struggles for existence. They continue to walk their life, dreaming their hope and drumming their little happiness celebrating festivals and rejoicing their hypocrisy by placing politicians and god men on the pedestals of the very creators. Tomorrow my city Delhi will be ready for Ram Dev Baba's grandeur 'hunger strike', splurging money power and the showmanship of hypocrisy. The venue "Ramlila ground" which has been for ages trying to burn the effigy of "Ravana"will once again fail to stop of the birth of yet another political movement that promises to hoodwink the people almost the way "Ravana" in "Ramayana" took away Sita.. Though being one among the ordinary, I don

A kick in the butt ! what else..?

Our democratically elected political leaders have proved themselves both as individuals and as cabinet, a colossal error of the electorates.. The party in power should have long back perished for non performance. However they are still very much around broking power and hogging lime light. The credit for this should go to none other than the opposition parties in our parliament which continue to pretend to deliver in spite of knowing its impotency. India today is truly becoming a frustrating scenario of governance & the governed. Being an 'Aam Aadmi' the best way to vent my frustration has always been vandalizing public properties, burning buses and aimlessly throwing stones and finally finding myself sighing & seething with pain lying on the corridors of some govt hospitals with slinged legs & fractured skull waiting to hog some media lime light. You know at times I wonder where this ferocity of city's police force disappear when it comes to hand

The SEAL team 6, from Abbottabad in Pakistan were busy radioing "Geronimo E-KIA,"(enemy killed in action)....when 'Osama Bin Laden' found himself walking the vast expanse of emptiness millions of miles away from the cozy comforts of 'Abbottabad' Walking through the hazy & clouded emptiness he spotted a frail bespectacled figure standing away from him holding a stick that was almost reaching his shoulder level. Osama found the face very familiar. Yes it was the face of Gandhi, that he was so used to seeing in all the Indian currency notes that his organization 'Al Qaeda' kept importing & re exporting along with other international currencies to keep alive the cause of his 'Jihhad'. Now this is what transpired between OSAMA & GANDHI as they came face to face.... Osama : So you are Mahatma Gandhi.. Gandhi : Please call me simply 'Atma' Gandhi or just Gandhi will do. ' Osama : I am 'Osama Bin Laden. Just tr

India is running 64 and still she is being addressed as 'young nation'. I am just running 62 and my 'young nation' is all in hurry to hand me a "life term achievement award" by prefixing senior citizen to my name. The job market now has suddenly started overlooking my professional expertise and becoming more fussy about my being 62. Well anyway I don't pity myself for being around all the wonderful years and still remain all excited going on white water river rafting and enjoying MTV bouts. I am happy taking those big strides and large leaps growing my wisdom. Anyway I am not here to win my war for "Cheeni Kum" movement. I am here for waring my reasons for war against corruption. I do support & believe in "War against corruption" that's why I allowed myself to soak away in the sun at Jantar mantar. However now when I am reading the clauses of draft writing of the Lok Pal bill , I am not very sure if thi

That's America...

Image
It is here stands the great statue of Liberty enlightening the world. Yet there are millions of people around the world who love to hate this country but there are also billions of others around the world who would love to live here. That's America one country across the Atlantic that I would like to visit at least once in my life time. More than Hollywood, Las Vegas and those wild west flock lores what I admire most about America is that, no matter from which nation you hail, no matter which religion or faith you belong to, you have the true freedom from any kind of discrimination. All that matters here is that you belong to America and you are an American. 9/11 terror attack in New York took massive toll of human lives. It shook the world, so also 26/11 terror attack in Mumbai took precious human lives. It shook the world too... Post 9/11 saw America fortifying her security as well untiringly going all out trailing and tracking the perpators of the terror attack without

When it comes to mannerism , I may be a bit of American but never any bit a 'Brit'. Thank God I belong to the post independent generation. May be that's why it took me a while this afternoon to register the 'Union Jack" wavers. I was watching the great 'Royal wedding' from the comforts of my drawing room. I don't know why no Indian was part of the 1900 invitees to the Royal wedding. Being an Indian that includes me too... Anyway I hate to wear stiff neck and sport those Windsor knot. All the more I know I will feel claustrophobic in the motley crowd of floating hat less male heads walking hand in hand with those snobby women wearing all those funny hats. Truly aristocracy is something that you should be born with. You just can't cultivate those mannerism and stiff lip attitudes. Watching today the British Royal wedding did make me realize that nobody can out snob the members of "House of Windsor". House of Windsor is the off

When India won her freedom from the British, there was overwhelming emotional excitement among the people. Every Indian in the nook& corner of free India was full of dreams for this brand new India. Every Indian was optimist of seeing Tagore's" "Geetaanjli" (written in 1912) shaping up under the fire brand leadership of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Such optimism drained out very soon. The head beneath the Gandhi caps of our politicians in republic India now remained more occupied scheming moves and movements that could help them exhibiting , power & wealth and allow them to use their newly acquired political acumen for furthering a rule of dynasty to keep exploiting the credibility of the people... For these political leaders, people and the country took the back seat in their scheme of things for the progress & development of free Independent India. Every politician independently & collectively started splurging wealth pow

Time to treat the Termite

Garnering GDP may not alone give you the health chart of the nation. It cannot reflect upon the social health of the country. Scams and corruptions has so much infested the country that we are no more in a position even to pretend that 'all is well".. Independent India's first scam showed up way back in 1948 which was called Jeep scandal & involved the then defense minister and the most trusted lieutenant of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, V K Krishna Menon. This scam officially set into motion the wheels of corruption in this country. Today it has gathered such a maddening momentum that even our Constitution and our judiciary are not able to arrest its speed. It is not that they cannot apply the breaks, it is simply because they don't want to step out from the accelerator. Corruption has become the speed track to en-mass money, power & arrogance for our politicians, bureaucrats and babus . It has become the only medium that keeps our politicians across th

That was an epicness of performances!

Yes, finally a re-play of World Cup 1983 did happen. Our 28 years of wait gave us a performance that was spectacle of sheer outperforming best cricketing performances. "Our Men in Blue" created an epic chasing a first ever big target in the history of the World Cup. Our win yesterday was the first ever wining of World Cup by any country in their own home pitch. We won the finals because our "Men in Blue" collected guts & grits to out perform best performances. Chasing a score of 274, we realized what a captain's knock is all about. Yesterday we saw a great team play come alive at Wankhede stadium. This team play was also witnessed by our national leaders & politicians. If at all they are able to emulate an iota of this, India can witness the Indian politics shedding away some of the muck off their sleeves. Yesterday was an outpour of frenziness of our patriotism. As Dhoni hit that winning shot, the spontaneity of excitement and emotion

"Bleed Blue"..Pledge to WIN...

We won the semi finals at Mohali. For all of us defeating Pakistan was more of an emotional excitement than the thrill of winning the match. Tomorrow at Mumbai, when we will play Sri Lanka, it will be an action re-play of world cup finals 1983. Saturday when our 'Men in Blue' take the bat they will remain hungry for runs. They will play the balls in the gaps for 1's and 2's, they will sweep the balls for 4's, they will hit the ball for flying 6's. They will never turn desperate in judging the ball, they will remain alert in not allowing the ball to hit their pads before hitting the bat. Saturday when our 'Men in Blue' get into the field they will get their legs, feet and body right behind the ball. They will never fail to judge the flight of the ball when going for a catch. They will maintain perfect and lethal variation in line, length and pace while delivering the overs. Saturday when our 'Men in Blue' play Sri-Lanka we the people will be appl

At Mohali winning will matter the most....

One thing is certain, when we play the world cup finals, it will not be against Pakistan. Therefore winning will never matter to us as much as it will matter to us tomorrow. Today & tomorrow every Indian through out the world will be fervently praying for the "Men in Blue" to win the semi-finals at Mohali. When playing against Pakistan cricket for us becomes an emotional re-play. We did feel with time the hurt of partition will heal. However the 26/11 episode has left us all in a state of uncontrollable emotional turmoil that we will never be able to get over with. For our politicians and national leaders Mohali semi-finals may remain an opportunity to play political diplomacy. Knowing the politicians we do can fear the extent to which they can fall to meet their political agenda. However we the Aaam Aadmi will go all out to cheer & support to the hilt our "Men in Blue" Tomorrow we may start our day chewing our nails in anxiety but one thing is

Let everyday be a Happy woman's day..!

We as a society in general remain unconcerned about the life and plight of woman in this country. Our attitude towards woman has hardly made any markable change. Be it a mother, be it a daughter, be it a sister, be it a wife, we still remain prejudiced about equal rights. There is still a long way to cover before we see ourselves giving them their right to be their own self. We talk of woman's safety, yet when a woman remains engulfed in flames for not bringing dowry we simply become bystanders watching the bizarre. When she is raped and torched in the crowded streets, all that we do is to show our annoyance over the disgusting state of law & order. Neither as individuals nor as members of so called 'sane society' we ever try to curb our insane behavior and attitude towards woman. However we still have the cheeks enough to tom tom our concerns for the safety of woman. We are a society of hypocrites who believe in setting aside a day out of the 365

Mr.PM it's time to play a Captain's knock..!

Image
When the team is on sticky wickets and the players are batting on a bouncy pitch, holding on to the wickets and pitching for time becomes crucial. Not going for runs doesn't matter. If your team's performance score card is a story of miss fielding, loose deliveries, it is time for the captain to step in to play the captain's innings. Blaming the 2G scam as evils of collision politics, the PM attempted to cover drive his responsibility. As a consequence the entire winter session of the parliament became a colossal waste of tax payers money. However the eventual setting up of JPC was simply an act of demonstrating his back foot drive to save the govt getting flicked up at slips This has averted the Budget session from being a match abandoned. We are yet to know if the on-going budget session will end up being technically a match drawn or face saved. However for sure we now know that the captain is now on the striking end Of late and at last our judiciary seems

Not bad Pranab da..!

It is but obvious that no opposition party will come to compliment the government in power for a job well done. What holds for NDA today will remain true for UPA if the roles get reversed tomorrow. The role of the opposition party in this country is simply to counter the move without reading the merits. The only time when in the history of Indian Parliament the entire 524 members were unanimous was when, it came to supporting the bill for raising the emoluments of MPs threefold. It is therefore normal and expected to find the opposition bench criticizing the union budget for 2011-2012. Aam Aadmi does not know what is deficit financing and how it will hit his means. He is happy that the IT exemption limit has been raised to 1.80 lac from existing 1.60 lac. He is excited to realize that he can at least now visualize an approximative saving of Rs 9500 PA. He is happy that custom duty and excise duty has not been touched. He is optimistic that now he can utilize his 'v

An itch called "MONEY"..

I am a law abiding Indian citizen. To me my national flag is not just a face mask worn at the time of world cup. For me my national anthem is much more than the martial tune 'sare jahan se acha'. Casting my vote is both my right and my responsibility. By the way I come from a society that is more known for its spending power than its quality of ever remaining a mute spectator. The credit for this goes to none other than the ex-president of America...Mr.Bush... Democracy seems to have given our politicians the fundamental freedom to use their political wisdom to unleash scams and corruptions to ensure wealth creation for self & the party. Instead of accounting for facts they remain all bent for cremating creditability. The ruling party's stubbornness in not allowing forming a joint parliamentary committee(JPC) to probe scams is an ample proof that they neither want the Pandora's box opened, nor they want to betray the tons of skeletons crowding their cu

Who am I..? a Common man.!..

"Sare Jahan se achaa hindustan hamara.......". The song reeks of patriotism, still I love this song a great deal. Perhaps my love for my Hindustan continues to remain unconditional... In my own Hindustan I remain harassed and frustrated by the cost of living and my every day struggle in meeting the needs and necessities of my family. Many a times my body & mind boils in unrest but I keep the lid shut.I know when my lid will burst it will only see me strewn around, leaving behind a family in plight and turmoil. From what I say,I don't mean I am a coward because I am simply not a coward... I fight for my rights everyday with the different governmental and municipal bodies. I do protest loudly whenever I am not able to take the soaring inflations & the all around chaotic attitudes in my stride. I do join those frequent candle march processions called up by NGOS in protest of some or other terrorist attacks in the country. I don't blink an eye lid when

Cattle @ home but bull outside...!.

When Shashi Tharoor in good humor used the term "cattle" to refer the common Indian all the political parties and politicians were furious and got busy giving statements to the press & the media condemning the reference. Of course these were as symbolic as paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the Raj ghat... Now when the Indian students are being "Radio tagged" at the US universities none of the politicians and their parties seem to be giving any teeth in their condemning the Americans for their deplorable actions as well their attitude of arrogance towards Indians. The government also is simply doing nothing beyond giving official statement, which are nothing but diplomatic rituals. Even the Indians living in America who today by their sheer numbers exercise unprecedented political influence in American politics remain deep in their slumber. Why we as a nation always remain overboard in our being influenced by everything about America& Americans..? Whe

In conversation with Bapu....

With 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha' and 'Abide with Me'the Soul-stirring martial tunes and solemn drum beats at the majestic Raisina Hills the "Beating the Retreat" ceremony marked the conclusion of the week long ceremonial functions of India celebrating her 62nd year of Republic. As the illumination lit up the edifices of Imperial India..my thought reached out to that day into the history of independence that finally dropped the curtain on a life called "Gandhi"...the man whose experiment with truth may not have jelled with today but his name has truly become the brand that remain most misused & manipulated both in trade & politics. As I key-in these lines I can read out the conversation that would have transpired between the "soul of Nation" (SON) and "Mahatma Gandhi"(Bapu)....Read on what I read..... SON: Bapu it's me,are you sleeping....? BAPU: How can you ask that...don't you know this day in the year 1948..I was gu

being Hindu.....

Religion is the only domain that has unlimited tools and applications to keep the human race, running, re tracking & re furbishing their thought, action and wisdom on a faith called GOD. 'Hinduism' is one of such innumerable domains that remain vibrant& kicking everywhere in this planet that we call "Earth"... Almost 70 to 80 years ago in time my parents were born into a "tambrahm" Hindu family. I am therefore a 'Hindu" by birth and so do I remain now. I am not very religious about religions. I did though soon after finishing my college got into the routine of " a conversation with GOD" wherein I spent 15 minutes of my early mornings of everydays of the week Monday through Saturday asking HIM to make all my big, small great wishes come true I am carrying on with this routine even today when I have touched 60'. HE keeps me telling that Wishes can never be horses and that I can never ride on them, still I continue talking my '

Where the chaotic political elite remain fighting for power & purse. where Democracy has become betrayer of trust of the people. Where crime & punishments have become affairs of political convenience. Where goons are becoming franchisers of faith & GOD. Where lack of tangible leadership has become the one single most reason in pushing the country into Cesspool of Racism & Scamism. In short it is this country that I woke up for first ever time crying in bewilderment...It is this country where I for the rest of my life will every day be learning to live with fear and keep fighting my head out to trust the custodians of my vote for the safety & well being of my family. This country has no any more relevance to poet Laureate Rabindranath Tagore's "Gitanjali", Where he said and I can't resist quoting a few lines of this most beautiful poetry... here I go... "Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high; Where knowledge is free; Where
