Garnering GDP may not alone give you the health chart of the nation. It cannot reflect upon the social health of the country. Scams and corruptions has so much infested the country that we are no more in a position even to pretend that 'all is well"..
Independent India's first scam showed up way back in 1948 which was called Jeep scandal & involved the then defense minister and the most trusted lieutenant of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, V K Krishna Menon. This scam officially set into motion the wheels of corruption in this country. Today it has gathered such a maddening momentum that even our Constitution and our judiciary are not able to arrest its speed. It is not that they cannot apply the breaks, it is simply because they don't want to step out from the accelerator.
Corruption has become the speed track to en-mass money, power & arrogance for our politicians, bureaucrats and babus . It has become the only medium that keeps our politicians across the country united in understanding. They at times though for the sake of politics remain loud in public deploring corruption
Corruption charges don't surface. They have become so attuned to our tolerance that we have learned to live with it. Scams that surface unto the public domain are only the tips on the ice berg that refuse to melt. Bofors, Fodders,Hawala,Satyam,CWG, 2 G Spectrum are scams that went public to feed the media and keep the public belief on fairy tales...
From Panchayats to Parliament , from Civic Agencies to Civil Aviation, from Customs to Custodians of law, nothing moves without greasing the wheels of corruption. Gods at times become so unreliable that most of our things get done on the measure of 'rishwat, than by the mercy of the GOD.
Did you know when Ghandhiji launched Quit India movement nobody knew it will eventually drive out the British from India. In our India weeding out corruption looks as diabolic as churning the milky ocean, because we fear that the "Tsunami" it will unleash will wash away the very floor we walk on. However if Ghandhiji would have felt the same way when launching Quit India movement, perhaps to-day we still would have been sitting under the British Raj.
Remember when the termites start eating into the wood works of our house , we waste no time to treat the termites. Today when corruptions have become the termite that is eating away into the very fabrics of our nation, how can we simply pose ignorance..?
Today 73 years old Ghandian "Anna Hazare" has launched his fast unto death for weeding out corruptions. If we the billion strong Indians join him and support the cause in letter & spirit, we as a nation would have launched our Halla Bole against corruption. Lets do it. Its time to treat the termite.
