Is our Democracy Drifting ?

The Election Commission of India (ECI) was designed to be the ultimate, unyielding referee of the world’s largest democratic exercise, to ensure absolute electoral integrity Originally it was a  single-member body, subsequently it  expanded into a three-member panel comprising the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and two Election Commissioners, However be the last General election committee was modified to  consist the Prime Minister, a Union Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition. This exposed the intent of the Govt in power However, questions raised never answered. Today  the entire Nation knows the intent behind dropping CJ from the selection committee The independent foundation of the nation's apex watchdog today stands severely compromised .Today this institutional vulnerability has pushed our self proclaimed "Mother of Democracy" into a storm of global scrutiny, shaming our legacy of democratic pride.

Headlines across the globe have focused on the commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR), a sweeping digital cleanup that led to the provisional removal of a staggering 130 million names from the voter rolls, disproportionately striking marginalized and migrant populations who lacked complex residency documentation Worse still, the crisis has fractured the commission from within An Indian Express report revealed that sitting Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally had  recorded objections 14 times against unilateral decisions pushed through by CEC Gyanesh Kumar regarding database control and voter registration formats . This has now sparked massive nationwide  public protests, putting  our entire democratic heritage to shame

The Nation should demand (a) structural remedies: transforming the appointment panel to include the Chief Justice of India, (b) Open-data auditing for all voter roll modifications,(c ) Unanimous tri-partite consensus among all three commissioners for any database alterations

It is now well documented and acknowledged fact that the 3 Election commissioners are dummies. Removing any of them will not work. What will work is the resignation of the “Masterminds" that run it.

What the Nation needs is absolute transparency and public accountability. Our Democracy will never fade away. It can rise up from the ashes and stand tall. The roots of the world's largest democracy are far too deep to ever let any "Political Power" fail it It was sheer pathetic to see the senior spokesperson of BJP claiming that Gyanesh Kumar to be the Lord Ganesa. Is the Nation running out on "political sanity" ..!

But 'PAPU' Can "Vote"...'Sala'..!

"Sala".. is a generally accepted slang for both 'hum' the "Hindustani" and 'tum' the "Indian". Together this "HUM TUM" make the "Aam Admi"of the world's largest 'democracy'. This is our "INDIA".I agree with the TV ad that almost says "My India Strongest" in spite of the "Everest" of issues that surround her. Normally in this country the fate of the 'ordinary' people ie 'Aam Admi' always remain woefully harassed, pushed and frustrated through the year. However at the close every 5 years this 'Aam Admi' suddenly become extraordinarily powerful and remain wooed by all 'big, small and sundry' political parties of the country. Yes it is time for General Election. In the coming months for the 15th Lok Sabha, 714 million eligible voters would be 'bee lining' to the ballot boxes across 29 states,6 union territories to elect 543 members . 'Jaago-...

In conversation with Bapu....

With 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha' and 'Abide with Me'the Soul-stirring martial tunes and solemn drum beats at the majestic Raisina Hills the "Beating the Retreat" ceremony marked the conclusion of the week long ceremonial functions of India celebrating her 62nd year of Republic. As the illumination lit up the edifices of Imperial India..my thought reached out to that day into the history of independence that finally dropped the curtain on a life called "Gandhi"...the man whose experiment with truth may not have jelled with today but his name has truly become the brand that remain most misused & manipulated both in trade & politics. As I key-in these lines I can read out the conversation that would have transpired between the "soul of Nation" (SON) and "Mahatma Gandhi"(Bapu)....Read on what I read..... SON: Bapu it's me,are you sleeping....? BAPU: How can you ask that...don't you know this day in the year 1948..I was gu...

My expiriment with "TRUTH"..

It was today but the year was 1981 and the day was probably a Saturday. I was there on the ceremonial stretch of "Raj path".There were about 4 lac people like me "all excited", getting ready for the "action shot" for Richard Atendbrough's film "GANDHI". The scene was Gandhiji's "funeral procession".I was wearing white khadi "Pajama & Kurta" which I bought from Khadi gram udyog at 'Regal building the previous evening. This was the recommended "dress code" for the shoot. Probably I never thought then that I was about to be part of a "live action crowd" of this magnitude that will never again be filmed. Soon the heavy camera's parked on the cranes started rolling. I lost the count of how many times those giant like cameras zoomed in and zoomed out of me. I was simply emotionally charged walking the stretch shouting "Vande Matram","Mahatma Gandhi" "AmarRahe"...
