'No'.. "British Mambo Jambo"!

We know every 'dog' has his 'day'.But the dog I am writing about is something special. Awards after awards are pouring cats & dogs' on this 'Dog' ever since it was unleashed. Now believe me I am not referring to any 'Dog Show'. You guessed it right I am talking about 'Slum dog Millionaire' which is all set to walk the 'Red Carpet' this Sunday at the 81st Oscar award ceremony at "Kodak Theater" Los Angeles.

Is "Slum dog Millionaire" a 'masterpiece'?. Now I am not qualified to make that statement. After all you need a 'master' to be 'his Master's voice'.

As an average Indian movie goer I did find it good in the usual way.It did have some patches of "SATYA" and "BLACK FRIDAY"..but never carried the intensity and depth of those movies.

I am not offended like Bollywood's big 'B' for its glorifying the slums & poverty of India. I do know for sure such slums & poverty exists and thrive in all western nations that includes the GREAT BRITAIN & USA.

Today when India has emerged as one of the most intellectually powerful and economically robust nation across this globe, the "British" still don't want to admit that. They now try to find salvation by projecting our slums & our poverty through a medium called cinema.

Don't mind Mr.Danny Boyal we Indians never pretend to be 'what we are not'...except of course when it comes to speaking "English" many of us still do pretend to give it a "Brit" accent..but...I never knew your "Jamal" the Indian slum dweller also was one of them .You see I have never come across any slum dweller in India referring a 'dog' a 'dog'. For them a 'dog' has always been a "Kutta"..and that's no "British Mambo Jambo"...you can check it..Mr.Danny Boyal.

In conversation with Bapu....

With 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha' and 'Abide with Me'the Soul-stirring martial tunes and solemn drum beats at the majestic Raisina Hills the "Beating the Retreat" ceremony marked the conclusion of the week long ceremonial functions of India celebrating her 62nd year of Republic. As the illumination lit up the edifices of Imperial India..my thought reached out to that day into the history of independence that finally dropped the curtain on a life called "Gandhi"...the man whose experiment with truth may not have jelled with today but his name has truly become the brand that remain most misused & manipulated both in trade & politics. As I key-in these lines I can read out the conversation that would have transpired between the "soul of Nation" (SON) and "Mahatma Gandhi"(Bapu)....Read on what I read..... SON: Bapu it's me,are you sleeping....? BAPU: How can you ask that...don't you know this day in the year 1948..I was gu...

But 'PAPU' Can "Vote"...'Sala'..!

"Sala".. is a generally accepted slang for both 'hum' the "Hindustani" and 'tum' the "Indian". Together this "HUM TUM" make the "Aam Admi"of the world's largest 'democracy'. This is our "INDIA".I agree with the TV ad that almost says "My India Strongest" in spite of the "Everest" of issues that surround her. Normally in this country the fate of the 'ordinary' people ie 'Aam Admi' always remain woefully harassed, pushed and frustrated through the year. However at the close every 5 years this 'Aam Admi' suddenly become extraordinarily powerful and remain wooed by all 'big, small and sundry' political parties of the country. Yes it is time for General Election. In the coming months for the 15th Lok Sabha, 714 million eligible voters would be 'bee lining' to the ballot boxes across 29 states,6 union territories to elect 543 members . 'Jaago-...

My expiriment with "TRUTH"..

It was today but the year was 1981 and the day was probably a Saturday. I was there on the ceremonial stretch of "Raj path".There were about 4 lac people like me "all excited", getting ready for the "action shot" for Richard Atendbrough's film "GANDHI". The scene was Gandhiji's "funeral procession".I was wearing white khadi "Pajama & Kurta" which I bought from Khadi gram udyog at 'Regal building the previous evening. This was the recommended "dress code" for the shoot. Probably I never thought then that I was about to be part of a "live action crowd" of this magnitude that will never again be filmed. Soon the heavy camera's parked on the cranes started rolling. I lost the count of how many times those giant like cameras zoomed in and zoomed out of me. I was simply emotionally charged walking the stretch shouting "Vande Matram","Mahatma Gandhi" "AmarRahe"...
