Elections..its all about Slogans...!.

I was a 11 year old kid then and I am talking of 1960, the year we had shifted to Delhi from Bangalore. Delhi of those days was politically a Jan Sang hub and their political slogan of that time was quite a hit with kids  across Delhi..I recall this for one ....."Jan Sangh Ko Vote Do, Bidi Peena Chod Do, Bidi Mein Tambakaku Hai,Congress Wala Daku Hai". Anyways inspite of this slogan the Congress  ruled the Indian National Political scene  as well the Nation for decades together with little sojourn now and then.

Being in Delhi and growing up watching the political hustle and bustle of election seasons I do can vouch that politicians are neither the conscience  keepers of this  Democracy nor  they carry  the courage of conviction to  practice what they preach. Their electioneering speech can be a passionate peep into patriotism but their deeds and doings have always remained a  questionable morality. With the kind of low the Indian politicians are hitting I don't think politics in India can  anymore be said  to be the second oldest profession,..

In spite of being the prime movers of this people's Democracy we have always remained trapped by political  slogans that has constantly kept us in  the optical illusion of  being transformed into a nation where people priority will replace political priority, where political sloganeering will not rest in the bill board but  become a sustainable delivery.  Here are some of the Political slogans that may have helped the national political parties to come into power and harvest windfall of wealth and ego for their 'near dear and self'  but they hardly have been of any worthwhile mention to the people and the Nation...

"Jai Jawan Jai Kissan"...this slogan was coined in 1965 soon after the India -Pak war and the food crisis. Today 5 decades after the war the brave soldiers who fought and won this war remain chasing   the establishment for implementing their  legitimate Pension rights  "OROP"  On the other hand the farmers in this country unable to bear the debt trap continue to commit suicide....

"Garibi Hattao"....This slogan  coined in 1971 brought back Indira Gandhi and Congress  to power .Today  after 45 years, if we are able to see  the Indian Railway's  'Garib Rath' connecting states ,we are also witness  to   millions of underprivileged citizens of this democracy living in extreme poverty.

"Indira Hattao Desh Bachao"...This slogan was the  rallying cry of the opposition political parties that came under the umbrella as 'Janta Party' post emergency . The Janta Party.though was able to win the elections very soon lost it because of internal dis-unity and greed. Indira Gandhi  got back to power with thumbing majority in 1980...

There are still more political slogans  in queue but I would prefer to jump the queue for these some slogans which for some  weird reasons  I find   sarcastically funny, in context to the present day Politicking. Here you are.......

"Bari Bari Sab Ki Bari Ab Ki Bari..Atal Bihari "(BJP)
"Congress  Ka Haat Aam Admi Ke Sath" ,(CONGRESS)
"Jhadu Chalao Beiman Bhagao "(AAM ADMI Party).

However of the above the last one I feel is more about self branding  than anything beyond.Being an Indian I have the right to be angry to know that Churchell in his living days said "Indian politicians are Rascals". I am now no more an angry young man...I am simply a retired pessimist who  still look forward living in "Swatch Bharat". However my hope for "Achhe Din"  does not stop me from stating  that "Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly for same reason".........

MY MODISTORY

I am one among 900  million plus    "nuts and bolts" of our  Democracy , who   become "faceless" faces in the crowd after  every 5 years.  Year 2014 election was in every sense historic It was beyond doubt a landslide victory for BJP and the beginning of  the so called "MODI" Raj  In year 2014 my reason and my josh for  casting my vote for  BJP was "Modi". His speeches were "sparkling confidence" that set ablaze the confidence of  the nation that was trying to rise up from the cesspool of corruption   Looking back now after 11 years I realise that year 2014 was also  the beginning of era called   "Political Branding" that would  covert  a "politician" into a larger than life  "Mega Leader" Perhaps that is the reason that today in politics "anti-incumbency" does not matter at all . Here are  in brief  a Common man's  bunch of thoughts on "Modi Story". These ...

CLARITY IN CHAOS

The Bhagavad Gita is a living scripture  universally relevant  today as it was 5000 years ago in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. It is a divine conversation that took place in the battlefield of Kurukshetra  between two best  friends, Lord Krishna the Charioteer and Arjuna the warrior.  'Bhagavad Gita' is an integral part of of Indian mythology  I have always believed mythology is not for everyone including me.  So when my friend, the author of the book  "Understanding Bhagavad Gita", gave me a  copy to review , I was not very comfortable.  I like  'Arjuna'  started looking for excuses . However one day not very soon , "The Recipe For A Better Life " the part of the title  hooked me into reading it The author has covered the essence of 'Gita' inside the  160 pages, through   eighteen Chapters.  Every chapter has an "Introduction", a "Summary" and a "Reflection" The simplicity of his writing gives...
