Simply speaking , power as well as roll of Democracy is not confined to voters exercising their electoral right to vote .In Democracy the idea of election is to choose a government that allows the citizens to express their dissent, demand accountability and influence public policy.
The recent detailed investigating report published in "The Indian Express" established that two out of three "Election Commissioners" had complained that they were kept in the dark on most of the crucial decisions taken at the "Election Commission" They also revealed unprecedented internal fractures and serious administrative disputes within the "Election Commission". They claimed that they had formally lodged written objections at least "14" times over "10" months against unilaterally made decisions by the "Chief Election Commissioner" Gyanesh Kumar and the ECI's "IT Division". Further they revealed that critical changes were effected in "Voter Listings" leading to over 130 million citizens names being deleted in the "SIR"(special Intensive Report) across 30 States and Union territories. they also revealed how a new mandatory "Q" was digitally added to "Form 16 "(this is New Voter registration form) This was done to frustrate the Gen Alpha and Gen Z from registering as "Voters" ahead of 2029 General Election.
The ongoing Nationwide protests by Gen Z demanding Gyanesh Kumar's resignation are manifestation of public frustration over a totally compromised functioning of the autonomous constitutional body of our Democracy. The way the Govt has let loose on the streets of Delhi a beefed up brute police and para military forces indicate acute political frustration of the Party in Power.
As I write this the Govt has de notified "Jantar Mantar" as the venue for public protest This however is not going to dampen the "Mood of the Nation ".The Nation will continue the protest , now much more vigorously and vigilantly. Demanding accountability and seeking meaningful investigation in the matter of "Vote Chori" is the democratic right of every citizen In a Democracy rights are not given; they are inherent
Democracy cannot be damned anymore
