Congratulations.."Will & "Kate" !

When it comes to mannerism , I may be a bit of American but never any bit a 'Brit'. Thank God I belong to the post independent generation. May be that's why it took me a while this afternoon to register the 'Union Jack" wavers. I was watching the great 'Royal wedding' from the comforts of my drawing room. I don't know why no Indian was part of the 1900 invitees to the Royal wedding. Being an Indian that includes me too...

Anyway I hate to wear stiff neck and sport those Windsor knot. All the more I know I will feel claustrophobic in the motley crowd of floating hat less male heads walking hand in hand with those snobby women wearing all those funny hats. Truly aristocracy is something that you should be born with. You just can't cultivate those mannerism and stiff lip attitudes. Watching today the British Royal wedding did make me realize that nobody can out snob the members of "House of Windsor". House of Windsor is the official name given to the British Royal Household.

Prince William, the duke of Cambridge is the next heir apparent to British throne, after Charles, Prince of Wales his father. Therefore there was no doubt this Royal Wedding was today's best show on the earth. After all it had the two best cast, one born aristocrat, other married into aristocracy.

Thanks to the BBC, this common man sitting miles away from British Isles got the privilege to watch the pageantry draped wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in the historic Westminster Abbey. It somehow reminded me of Barbara Cartland's romantic novels. Their locking the lips at the balcony of the Buckingham palace truly gave a fairy tale beginning to a happily ever after blissful life.

Congratulations "Will" & "Kate" !

In conversation with Bapu....

With 'Sare Jahan Se Achcha' and 'Abide with Me'the Soul-stirring martial tunes and solemn drum beats at the majestic Raisina Hills the "Beating the Retreat" ceremony marked the conclusion of the week long ceremonial functions of India celebrating her 62nd year of Republic. As the illumination lit up the edifices of Imperial India..my thought reached out to that day into the history of independence that finally dropped the curtain on a life called "Gandhi"...the man whose experiment with truth may not have jelled with today but his name has truly become the brand that remain most misused & manipulated both in trade & politics. As I key-in these lines I can read out the conversation that would have transpired between the "soul of Nation" (SON) and "Mahatma Gandhi"(Bapu)....Read on what I read..... SON: Bapu it's me,are you sleeping....? BAPU: How can you ask that...don't you know this day in the year 1948..I was gu...

But 'PAPU' Can "Vote"...'Sala'..!

"Sala".. is a generally accepted slang for both 'hum' the "Hindustani" and 'tum' the "Indian". Together this "HUM TUM" make the "Aam Admi"of the world's largest 'democracy'. This is our "INDIA".I agree with the TV ad that almost says "My India Strongest" in spite of the "Everest" of issues that surround her. Normally in this country the fate of the 'ordinary' people ie 'Aam Admi' always remain woefully harassed, pushed and frustrated through the year. However at the close every 5 years this 'Aam Admi' suddenly become extraordinarily powerful and remain wooed by all 'big, small and sundry' political parties of the country. Yes it is time for General Election. In the coming months for the 15th Lok Sabha, 714 million eligible voters would be 'bee lining' to the ballot boxes across 29 states,6 union territories to elect 543 members . 'Jaago-...

My expiriment with "TRUTH"..

It was today but the year was 1981 and the day was probably a Saturday. I was there on the ceremonial stretch of "Raj path".There were about 4 lac people like me "all excited", getting ready for the "action shot" for Richard Atendbrough's film "GANDHI". The scene was Gandhiji's "funeral procession".I was wearing white khadi "Pajama & Kurta" which I bought from Khadi gram udyog at 'Regal building the previous evening. This was the recommended "dress code" for the shoot. Probably I never thought then that I was about to be part of a "live action crowd" of this magnitude that will never again be filmed. Soon the heavy camera's parked on the cranes started rolling. I lost the count of how many times those giant like cameras zoomed in and zoomed out of me. I was simply emotionally charged walking the stretch shouting "Vande Matram","Mahatma Gandhi" "AmarRahe"...
